The short version
Output Arcade is a playable sampler and instrument plugin built around speed and inspiration. You browse an enormous, daily-growing library of loops and chromatic instruments, play and reshape them in real time, and drop ideas straight into your track — or chop your own samples into playable kits. It’s superb at beating writer’s block. The catch is the model: it’s subscription-only from $12.99/month, with no perpetual licence. Stop paying and you lose access. Worth every penny while you’re using it heavily; poor value if you only dip in occasionally.
What Arcade actually does
Arcade isn’t a synth and it isn’t quite a traditional sample library. It’s a “playable sampler” — you load a kit, and every key on your keyboard triggers a musical, in-tune slice of that sound, which you can manipulate live as it plays. Loops follow your project tempo automatically, so auditioning ideas is instant.
The pitch is right there in how producers describe it: an idea machine. When a project is empty and nothing’s coming, Arcade is one of the quickest routes to something that sounds like a track. You can also import your own audio and have Arcade auto-chop it into a playable kit, which extends it well beyond the stock content.

The price — and the fork to avoid
Arcade is subscription-only. The standalone Arcade plan starts at $12.99/month (cheaper billed annually), with a 7-day free trial. There’s no one-time purchase option — this is rental software, and that’s the single most important thing to understand before committing.
Arcade vs Output One — don’t overpay
Output also sells a bundle called Output One at $14.99/month or $119.99/year. That’s not “Arcade with a discount” — it’s Arcade plus Co-Producer and the Thermal, Portal and Movement effect plugins. If you only want the sampler, the standalone Arcade plan is what you’re after. Only step up to Output One if you’ll actually use those extra FX. Existing Arcade subscribers can add the bundle for roughly $2/month more.
Over a year, standalone Arcade runs to roughly $150–$155 monthly, or less annually — about the price of buying Serum 2 outright, every year, forever. That maths is the whole debate: if Arcade is in daily use, it earns its keep easily. If it sits idle for months, a one-time purchase or a pay-as-you-go service like Splice may serve you better.
